Which languages can AI models speak?

We benchmark models on different languages and record the results here. This is helpful for knowing which models to use when internationalizing your apps. When model providers claim their models can speak certain languages, like Mistral claiming that mixtral-8x7b is "fluent in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish", we take their word for it.

For example, for Japanese users, you should consider switching to an AI model that speaks Japanese. In this case, gpt-4-turbo can understand Japanese, but llama-3-8b can't.
