# General Translation Platform: Adding annotations URL: https://generaltranslation.com/en-US/docs/platform/dashboard/guides/adding-annotations.mdx --- title: Adding annotations description: How to use labels, notes, and comments to coordinate translation review by entry and locale in the General Translation Dashboard. related: links: - /docs/platform/dashboard/guides/reviewing-translations - /docs/platform/dashboard/guides/adding-translation-context - /docs/platform/dashboard/guides/managing-billing --- Annotations help you review translations and translation decisions. Use them to mark entries, review workflows, and discuss issues with your team. *Note that annotations are not available on the Starter plan.* ## Annotation scope and types [#annotation-scope-types] Annotations are scoped to an **entry and locale**. For example, an entry's Spanish translation can have different labels, notes, and comments than its French translation. Source content can also have its own annotation scope when source annotations are enabled. General Translation supports three annotation **types**: labels, notes, and comments. | Annotation Type | Best For | Usage | | ----------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | **Labels** are colored tags for categorizing entries. | **Review states** like "Needs review," "Approved," or "Legal." | Create Project-wide labels, toggle them on entries, manage them in bulk, and filter by label. | | **Note** is a plain-text note attached to an entry. | Translator guidance and **internal context**. | Add a singular note per entry and locale. | | **Comments** are threaded discussions. | **Team conversations** with replies, resolve, and reopen. | Start a thread, reply, resolve it when complete, and reopen if needed. | ## Add annotations [#add-annotations] On the Translations page of your Project, click the **Tag** icon to quickly add a label for the selected entry. Click the **Comment** icon to open the full panel, where you can: - Create, edit, toggle, and archive **labels**. - Add or edit the **note**. - Create **comments**, reply, and resolve threads. Resolved threads collapse into a separate section so active discussions stay visible. ## Manage and filter labels [#manage-filter-labels] Labels are Project-wide. You can define a **catalog** of labels with names and colors, then apply those labels to entries. To manage labels in bulk, select rows and then click **Manage labels.** Choose which locales the bulk change should affect. Use the **Filter** icon in the translation header to filter by label. This is particularly useful for review workflows, like surfacing everything marked "Needs review." ## Next steps - /docs/platform/dashboard/guides/reviewing-translations - /docs/platform/dashboard/guides/adding-translation-context - /docs/platform/dashboard/guides/managing-billing
