# General Translation Integrations: Locales URL: https://generaltranslation.com/en-US/docs/integrations/storyblok/reference/locales.mdx --- title: Locales description: Reference for how Storyblok space languages map to General Translation locales. API reference for Storyblok locale handling. --- How General Translation resolves source and target locales for a Storyblok space. Target locales come from the space's own language configuration, mapped to supported General Translation locales. ## Overview [#overview] | Topic | Description | | --- | --- | | [Locale mapping](#locale-mapping) | How space languages map to General Translation locales. | | [Source locale](#source-locale) | How the source locale is chosen. | | [Target locales](#target-locales) | How target locales are offered and validated. | | [Unsupported locales](#unsupported-locales) | What happens when a locale cannot be used. | ## Locale mapping [#locale-mapping] Storyblok configures languages per space under **Settings > Languages**. Each language has a code (for example `de` or `fr`). General Translation normalizes each code and keeps the language only when the normalized code is a supported General Translation locale. Normalization means a space language and a General Translation locale do not have to be written identically — General Translation matches them by their normalized form. A language whose code does not normalize to a supported locale is dropped from the available locales. ## Source locale [#source-locale] **Default** the Project's default locale The **Source locale** on the management page defaults to your Project's default locale. You can change it to any supported locale that is not already one of the space's configured languages. ## Target locales [#target-locales] The **Target locales** are defaulted from the space's configured languages that map to supported General Translation locales, with the source locale removed. You can deselect or add locales before running. A target locale is accepted only when it is both: - Configured as a language on the Storyblok space, and - Mapped to a supported General Translation locale. At translation time, each target locale is re-validated against the space. Translations are written back into the story under the Storyblok language code, while the General Translation job uses the normalized locale. ## Unsupported locales [#unsupported-locales] A target locale that is not configured on the space is rejected with an error stating the locale is not configured for the space. A locale that is configured on the space but does not map to a supported General Translation locale is rejected as unsupported. Add the language in Storyblok, or choose a supported locale, to resolve either case.
